Suck numero seis

In this week’s show the agenda was originally for me and Dawg to try tequilas and tell you about them. Life happens and neither of us felt like going to buy a bunch of alcohol to get drunk during a weeknight and Dawg is on call this week so it’d really be bad form to answer the phone “TEQUILA!” if work called, so at the last minute I decided we’d discuss road trips!

Route 66

Santa Fe Trail

Other New Mexico Scenic Drives are recommended here.

Drinks of the week

Alcohol-laden: Route 66

* 1 part Absinthe
* 1 part Irish Cream (Bailey’s)
* 1 part Kahlua
* 1 pinch Cinnamon

In a shot glass: Layer Kahlua, Bailey’s and then absinthe. Light on fire, and then sprinkle cinnamon over the top (it will flame and sparkle, about 1/2 meter in height). Blow out and then drink though a straw.

Non-alcoholic suggestion: Route 66 root beer

And also, the most important decision of all: BEERHER. Ok, so nothing is there quite yet, but the night before TequilaCon prepare to get your BEER on. We will find a nice spot in or around Santa Fe Brewing Company and drink a bunch of beer. Bikinis are optional. More details to come!

A word to the wise: Sneak next door to their parent restaurant, El Mesón, and try their paella!  They’re closed Sunday and Monday so don’t show up then.

The Black Dragon

The Black Dragon is a specialty of the Dragon Room Lounge @ The Pink Adobe. This delicious drink includes Silver tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, and a float of cassis. And just in case you have no idea what any of those ingredients are:

  • Silver tequila is not aged, or aged only slightly and is best used in mixed fruit drinks.
  • Cointreau is an orange-tasting liqueur.
  • Lime juice is what gets squeezed out of a lime.
  • Cassis and a sweet black-currant liqueur that is blood-red in color, which helps to make this drink black and dragony.

Raaawwwr!

Dragon Room Lounge @ The Pink Adobe

406 Old Santa Fe Trail
505.983.7712

The Dragon Room Lounge has been named the top bar in Santa Fe by The Santa Fe Reporter and one of the top 20 bars in the world by International Newsweek.

The lounge is part of a restaurant inside of a 300-year old house in the center of the Barrio de Analco district that includes what are claimed to be the oldest house and the oldest church in the United States according to the very reliable sources at Wikipedia and is across the street from said oldest church, El San Miguel Mission.

Back to the Dragon Room, the atmosphere is laid back, with trees growing out the ceiling, and the crowd is eclectic, ranging from students to politicians to a celebrity or two. The dragon fare includes ribs, stew, steak, chips and salsa, fish and chips, hummus and pita, and steamed mussels. The popcorn on your table is FREE and we looooooove popcorn!

They also serve several specialty drinks that include tequila, most notedly The Black Dragon, which includes Silver tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, and a float of cassis.
